Miami East announces homecoming court

The 2021 Miami East High School homecoming court has been selected. The senior court includes, bottom row, David Davis, Paxton Hunley, Kyleigh Kirby, Cael Rose. Middle row, l-r, Collen Gudorf, Chloe Gump, Max Wittenmyer, Sunnee Hazel. Top row, Jenna LeBlanc, Jonah Blauvelt, Grace Lawson, and Trey Kreitzer. The Vikings homecoming game is Friday with the dance being held on Saturday at the high school from 8 until 10 p.m.

‘Bucc Bash’ set for Saturday

Saturday night promises to be a big time in this little city. Because Saturday, Oct. 2, the probable final “Bucc Bash” fundraiser will be held at the Covington Eagles Hall. It will be put on by the Covington Bucc Boosters and Covington Noon Optimist Club, and runs from 6-9 p.m. that Saturday night. Both of these fine organizations have the common goal to support the youth of our community in various ways. The Bucc Boosters focus on the athletic pursuits of Covington student-athletes, providing funds for uniforms, weight room, and other various related activities. The Covington Noon Optimist Club has the mission as “Friend of Youth,” meaning supporting kids in various ways in our village and school system. The Optimist Club donates scholarship funds, contributes to the PLUS Overnighter, provides funds to many school-related groups, as well as donates to fire and bicycle safety programs.

DeHart gets “Golden” opportunity

Vietnam veteran Staff Sgt. Mick DeHart, of Troy, had the opportunity to jump with the U.S. Army Golden Knights at Addington Field in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, this month. DeHart, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, among other decorations for heroism in combat, was offered the jump in return for his ongoing efforts in recruiting and retention of soldiers. DeHart’s instructor for the tandem jump was SFC Jake Kerkow.
