TROY — The competition at the high school cross country boys Lost Creek Invitational with Centerville running in the race.

And nobdy was happier about that than Piqua’s Noah Burgh, who finished 24th at last year’s state meet.

“I was really excited to be honest to see Centerville here,” Burgh said about the 3k race held Monday at Lost Creek. “This is a pretty small race. There were some Wayne runners out there too. It was great to see.”

Burgh finished second in the race in 9:18.6, less than six second behind Daniel Emmert of Centerville.

“I found out about a week ago that Daniel Emmert was going to be here,” Burgh said. “Really, I was just excited for the competition that was here.”

Burgh said he will get a better feel for where he is at Saturday, when Piqua runs in the Bob Schul Invitational.

“In track, you run around in a circle and you can (look at your time in a shorter race) and figure out about where you would be,” he said. “You can’t really do those calculations in cross country. Every course is different. You are running on grass, gravel and dirt and every course has a different amount of turns.”

Burgh led Piqua to a second-place finish behind Centerville.
