TROY — The Miami County Animal Shelter, in conjunction with sponsors Mojos Bar & Grille and Happy Pawz, is participating in the 10th annual nationwide Clear The Shelters event at the animal shelter in Troy on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7.

During the Clear The Shelters “extravaganza,” all dog and cat adoptions will be half off, as well as “lots of free swag” will be given away, said a Facebook post from the animal shelter. The half off adoptions are made possible by the sponsorship of Mojos Bar & Grille.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days at 1110 N. County Road 25A, Troy.

“If there is anyone out there that is thinking about adopting a dog or cat, this would be a great event that will help them find a (a dog or a cat) that will help meet their needs and find a loving companion for their home,” said Miami County Animal Shelter Director Robert Craft.

Also at the event on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., hot dogs and hamburgers are being grilled by sponsor Happy Paws owner/dog trainer Donald Roadcap. For a $5 donation, which goes toward the construction of the new Miami County Animal Shelter, attendees can enjoy either a hot dog or a hamburger, chips and bottled water.

The nationwide Clear The Shelters annual pet adoption and donation campaign is held this year from Aug. 10 through Sept. 10 with the intent of helping find loving homes for animals in need. More than 1 million pets have found their forever homes through hundreds of shelters across the country since 2015, according to cleartheshelters.com .

“This is the first time the event is being held here in Miami County,” Craft said. “Its something we have been hearing about in neighboring counties and is something we also wanted to do ourselves (in Miami County).”

Mojos Bar & Grille owner Brenda Boyle said, “When asked if Mojos would sponsor the ‘Clear the Shelter’ event, my answer, without hesitation, was ‘Of course!’All adoption events are important, but this one is especially so because it brings the community to the shelter. Not only is the community given a glimpse of daily life at the shelter, they are able to meet ALL of the adoptable pets. This includes the ones that are need of a little extra love, patience and understanding.”

“I urge the community to come out and enjoy the beautiful fall-like weather,” she continued “eat some good food supplied by Happy Pawz and most importantly, help us ‘Clear the Shelter!’”

When asked what motivated Roadcap to get involved with this event, he said, “I just want to make a difference to help the beautiful community of Troy, where I live, and Miami County. And I want to help dogs and cats find their forever home and help make a difference in helping build the new animal shelter.”

Craft said the adoption process is simple and as long as those interested quality, they will be able to take home their new family member of a cat or dog that same day.

“Our adoption process is relatively easy and quick, and if approved they can take home the animal of their choice on that day,” he said.

“A huge thank you to Mojos Bar & Grille for sponsoring the half off adoptions!” said the animal shelter Facebook post.
