Sidney’s Civil War Living History Sept. 21-22

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Historical Society and the city of Sidney are partnering to host the biannual Civil War Living History Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept 21-22, in Tawawa Park.

The park will open for visitors at 9 a.m. for Saturday’s events.

John Matteson will begin the day’s activities by speaking about The Battle of Fredericksburg at 10 a.m. He will return later to speak about his book “A Place Worse than Hell.”

Among other speakers on Saturday, Kent Masterson Brown will talk at 1 p.m. about his book “Meade at Gettysburg.”

The 73rd OVI Regimental Band will end the evening with a concert starting at 8:30 p.m.

They will also begin the day on Sunday with at performance at 8 a.m. before the non-denominational worship service at 8:30.

Sunday will feature many speakers including Kiefer King and Doug Millhoff, who will be speaking about their ancestors who fought during the Civil War.

There will be battle reenactments on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, a reenactment will take place at the Ross Covered Bridge, and on Sunday a reenactment will take place at Zenas King Bridge.
