Humane Society of Greater Dayton seeks support

DAYTON — Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton (HSGD) is stepping up to assist other shelters in these affected areas.

According to a Humane Society news release HSGD is preparing to receive animals transferred from these shelters and provide them with temporary care, and they urgently need foster homes to support our efforts.

“Hurricane Helene has caused immense suffering for countless communities,” said Brian Weltge, president and CEO of HSGD. “Animals are particularly vulnerable in these disasters, and we are committed to doing everything we can to help the people and animals in these communities as they deal with the aftermath of this hurricane.”

HSGD is currently working with national animal welfare groups to coordinate and help transport animals from the hardest-hit areas. However, their shelter is full, so they rely on emergency temporary fosters to help.

The number of animals that can be rescued depends entirely on the availability of foster homes. Here’s how you can make a life-saving difference:

• Become an Emergency Foster Parent: Open your heart and home to a displaced animal. Every foster home allows HSGD to help another animal during this emergency.

• Time is of the Essence: These animals are scared and vulnerable. The sooner they can get them into loving foster homes, the better it is for their overall health and well-being.

• Apply Today: Visit www.hsdayton.org/foster to fill out our quick and easy foster application. Your name will then be added to the emergency foster list and as animals come in we will have a list of ready-to-go fosters able to take in these vulnerable animals.

HSGD aims to give animals the compassion they desperately need in the wake of this disaster, and urges those who can to become an emergency foster parent today.

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a community in which all animals are valued and free from suffering. Through education, outreach, and support, they provide shelter and care to animals in need while working to inspire kindness, respect, and a sense of responsibility for the well-being of all animals.
