To the editor:

The corrosive and damaging lies of Donald Trump and J.D Vance continue. The latest disinformation included the malicious lies about the role of FEMA in the recent natural catastrophes of hurricanes Helene and Milton. Trump, apparently, is incapable of the truth. He authored the January 6th insurrection, and he continues to incite violence toward immigrants. Trump’s rhetoric and vile name calling seem to define who he is. J.D. Vance will say whatever Trump wants him to say, including perpetuation of the “Great Lie” of the 2020 election- the one that Trump lost.

I love my country, and I am deeply concerned that this Trump/Vance ticket has generated such political traction. Perhaps anger and grievance are the languages that connect with some people. I do understand that some people feel marginalized and left behind in this country. I simply believe that the culture that Mr. Trump has created is not the answer to such problems- it is a catalyst for dissension and mistrust.

I am hopeful that the words of a past century Republican President (Lincoln) might still be true, and that the “better angels of our nature” will prevail.
