Troy Pop Rocks performing Friday

TROY — The Troy Pop Rocks Jump Rope Team, a nationally renowned halftime act made up of students from Troy City Schools, will be performing at halftime on Friday during the boys varsity basketball game at the Troy High School.

The team consists of students ranging from third through eighth grade and boasts an impressive resume of performances across the country. Their act is a high-energy, choreographed routine with elements of tumbling, dance, and jump rope and is typically performed during halftime of high school and college basketball games.

Locally, they have already performed at University of Dayton Arena, Wright State’s Nutter Center, and Centerville High School to name a few.

On Jan. 15, they performed at Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. This halftime performance was especially exciting given that it came during an ACC battle between Duke, then the seventh ranked team in the nation, and North Carolina State. To add to that, it took place during Duke and USA Men’s National Team Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final season. This, along with the sold-out crowd of over 9,000 spectators, contributed to an electrifying atmosphere during their performance, said Melissa May, assistant coach for the Troy Pop Rocks Jump Rope Team, in a press release.

It is not too late to see a live performance from this group without having to travel far. The Troy Pop Rocks will be performing this Friday, Feb. 11, at Troy High School during the halftime at the high school boys varsity game between Piqua and Troy. Tip-off is at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Pop Rocks will also be performing on Monday, Feb. 14, at Miami East High School during the halftime of the boys varsity game against Lehman. Tip-off is also at approximately 7:30 p.m.

After that, the group heads off to the University of Toledo, Purdue University, and West Virginia University to perform their routine. Don’t miss your chance to see them here in Troy.
