Troy boys basketball team falls to Beavercreek in D-I sectional action

TROY —The Troy boys basketball team stayed close to fourth seeded Beavercreek in the early going.

But, the Beavers would eventually pull away for a 71-40 victory in Centerville D-I sectional action.

Troy closes the season at 10-12, while Beavercreek improves to 14-9.

Charlie Walker came out with a hot hand for the Trojans, scoring the team’s first six points on a pair of 3-pointers.

When Isaac Phillips added a basket, Troy had an 8-4 lead midway through the first quarter.

Beavercreek would score the next eight points, before Walker hit another 3-pointer to pull the Trojans within 12-11 after one quarter.

Phillips had another basket to open the second quarter and give Troy a 13-12 lead.

After four points by Beavercreek, Noah Davis scored to pull the Trojans within 16-15.

But, Beavercreek would then go on a 16-1 run, before a basket by Kellen Miller ended the run and Phillips had the final points of the first half to pull Troy within 32-19.

But, Beavercreek stretched the lead to 51-25 after three quarters, as Phillips had all six Troy points in the quarter and the Trojans could not recover.

Walker led Troy with 11 points and Phillips scored nine points.

Davis scored nine points and Miller added seven points.

Isaiah Williams led Beavercreek with 13 points.

Gabe Aga scored 11 points and Will Haskins netted 10 points.

Devin Garnes added eight points and Kyle Putnam, Adam Duvall and Daniel Jefferson all scored six points.
