Road closure set for Thursday
TROY — East Water Street in Troy from North Market Street to North Walnut Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, for a natural gas line replacement.
Fish Fries at St. Mary Church Piqua
PIQUA — Lenten fish fries at St. Mary Church in Piqua continue on Friday, March 18, from 5-7 p.m. Meals will be served in the cafeteria at Piqua Catholic for dine-in or carry out. There will also be a drive-thru to purchase meals. Those wanting drive-thru should enter the parking lot at the corner of Greene and Franklin Street for service.
Drive-thru meals will have a set menu: fried fish, macaroni and cheese along with cole slaw and a dinner roll. Dine-in or carry out meals will feature baked or fried fish, French fries or macaroni and cheese, cole slaw or applesauce and a dinner roll.
Desserts are also available in the school cafeteria.
Adult meals will be $10, seniors and carry-out will be $9 and children 12 and under will be $8.
Serving could change to drive-thru only due to health restrictions.
Scouting for food door hangers
PIQUA — Boy Scouts in the city of Piqua will be helping to stock area food pantries as part of the national Boy Scouts of America “Scouting for Food” drive. Last Saturday, Scouts distributed dark blue door hangers throughout the city asking for non-perishable food donations to help needy families in Piqua.
This coming Saturday, March 19, they will come around beginning at 10 a.m. to pick up your food donation. Residents are asked to attach the blue door hanger to their own bags or boxes and place them outside in a place visible from the road. This new door hanger policy is an attempt to reduce waste and encourage recycling. For more information contact Al Fledderman at 937-773-5330.
Miami County Retired Teachers Association to meet
TROY — The Miami County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:40 a.m. on March 21 at the Troy Church of the Nazarene, located at 1200 Barnhart Rd. in Troy.
Speaker will be Janel Hodges, epidemiologist from the Miami County Public Health Department.
Epidemiologists are public health workers who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury. They seek to reduce the risk and occurrence of negative health outcomes through research, community education and health policy.

Free joint pain webinar hosted by Premier Health March 29
MIAMI VALLEY — Premier Health will host a free virtual joint pain event Tuesday, March 29, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Orthopedic surgeon Louis Okafor, M.D., will discuss surgical and non-surgical ways to help get someone moving and lessen the harmful effects of arthritis and other conditions.
New treatment options, including procedures that use advanced, minimally invasive and robotic techniques will be covered. Practical tips for managing joint pain also will be shared.

Honor Flight presentation set for April 6
TROY — The Miami Valley Veterans Museum presents Honor Flight Dayton at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6. Larry Blackmore, a Vietnam veteran, is a past board member and current volunteer with Honor Flight Dayton. Blackmore will be sharing an Honor Flight Dayton presentation with Al Bailey, president of Honor Flight Dayton, and also a Vietnam veteran. It will be free admission at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum in Troy on Wednesday, April 6 at 9 a.m. Bailey will have Veteran, Guardian, and Volunteer applications at the meeting to hand out. The museum is open for visitors and welcomes donations Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Honor Flight Dayton takes veterans of the WWII Era, Korean Era, and Vietnam Era wars to see their national memorials in Washington, D.C. Priority is given to terminally ill veterans from any of these wars. These trips, both via air or by RVC ground transportation, are provided at no cost to the veterans which include airfare, RVC drivers, bus transportation with a police escort while in DC, meals, tee shirts, and disposable cameras. Honor Flight Dayton contracts with American Airlines to provide the chartered flights. Wheelchairs are provided to any Honor Flight Dayton veteran who has a mobility issue.
