Benning 90th birthday card shower invite

TROY — Lois (Shade) Benning, of Troy, formerly of Pleasant Hill, will be celebrating her 90th birthday on Sept. 2 and her family is hosting a “card shower” in honor of this monumental lifetime achievement.

Benning was born to parents Jackson David (J.D) Shade and Helen (Burnside) Shade on Sept. 2, 1934. She was the youngest of her siblings attending Newton High School, a member of the graduation Class of 1952. Upon graduation, she married her husband of 68 years, the late Edward Benning, on June 7, 1952. Together they had three children: Gary (Jane) Benning, of Greenville, Jerry (Teresa), of Commerce, Georgia, and Carolyn (the late Dan) Christman, of East Liberty; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Benning is probably best remembered in the Pleasant Hill and Newton community as the “lady behind the cash register” serving on the Newton School staff for 30 years from 1968-1998, with several of those years as the cafeteria manager. During that time, she catered many school functions, often paid for students meals from her own pocket when they were no longer allowed to charge for a meal, and made several items from scratch, always treating the staff to a smorgasbord of homemade treats and goodies for Christmas each year.

The family is requesting you send your birthday wishes, kind thoughts, and memories to her at 1325 Keller Dr., Troy, OH 45373. Thank you!
