As we roll through the fall, the Covington Christian Church will hold its final Drive-Thru Salad Luncheon of 2024 coming up on Friday, October 18. As usual, the luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m., or until all meals are sold out and gone. And this last luncheon will also feature their annual ‘Country Store’. But first, let us discuss food. First, stop by the church office before 1 p.m. Thursday, October 17 to preorder and reserve your salad lunch by leaving your donation. Special requests cannot be taken, unfortunately, and meals are pre-packaged and ready for pickup.

However, as a special feature this month, any order placed by Wednesday, October 16 will also be able to enjoy a cup of the church’s Cheesy Potato Soup. This is included with your standard meal of the popular Hot Chicken Salad, another container of their delicious salads, and a container of desserts. Don’t plan on needing to eat supper that night. And when you stop by to get your meal, be sure to visit their Country Store. They’ll feature homemade cakes, pies, cookies, candies, craft items, a limited amount of apple dumplings, and too many other goodies to name. The Covington Christian Church is located at 115 N. Pearl St., and their phone number is 473-3443. The church’s office hours are 9-1 Monday-Thursday.

The Fields of Grace Worship Center, in conjunction with the Covington Eagles, will provide a free lunch to the community on Saturday, November 9, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and continuing until all meals are gone. This is being called their ‘Friendsgiving Dinner’. This year, 1000 meals will be prepared for pickup or home delivery to surrounding areas. Fields of Grace and the Eagles have occasionally held a community Thanksgiving dinner prior to the holiday. So this is something a bit different, and a bit earlier in the holiday season, as to not conflict with some folks’ holiday plans.

The Friendsgiving meal will consist of a smoked shredded pork sandwich, cheesy potatoes, green beans, applesauce, and a chocolate chip cookie. There is a five-meal limit for home delivery, and meals will be distributed from the Covington Elementary School located at 807 Chestnut Street. Folks will be stationed outside to direct the public on where to pick up their meals. To receive a home delivery, call Fields of Grace Worship Center at 573-4282. The last day to sign up for a home delivery is October 31.

And the Covington Bucc Boosters is again hosting its ‘Couples Bowling’ fundraiser on Saturday, November 16. This event has been taking place for multiple years now, and a good time is always had by all who attend. Bowling skill is totally optional. The 2024 event will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. that evening at the Troy Bowling Center, located at 1530 McKaig Avenue in Troy. The cost is still set at $30 per couple, or $15 per individual, which includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. Individuals are welcome and can easily be paired up to still have a fun time. All funds raised help support Covington athletes through the work of the Bucc Boosters.

Registrations will be accepted through Friday, November 8, or until the first 90 bowlers register. It may fill up relatively quickly, so reach out to Bob Supinger at (513) 266-2029 or [email protected], or Glen Hollopeter at (937) 216-2255 or [email protected]. All payments must be made at the time of registration, and can be paid by cash or check payable to the Bucc Boosters. Their mailing address is P.O. Box 231, Covington 45318, if you’d prefer to mail your check and names to register.

During the event, the Bucc Boosters will be sponsoring a 50/50 drawing, auction items, and other raffle items. The bowling alley has large screen TVs for the college football action, pizza, and a full array of liquid refreshment. They are still accepting items for the auction, should anyone wish to donate. Thank you in advance, and Go Buccs!
