PIQUA — A Piqua motorcyclist was transported by CareFlight to a second hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Riverside Drive in Piqua on Sunday.

Kaylee Allyse Phipps, 19, of Piqua, was cited with right of way turning left after the crash on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11:56 a.m. According to the crash report, Phipps was traveling northwest on Riverside Drive/state Route 66 when she turned left onto North Downing Street without yielding to motorcyclist Zavier Anthony Penny, 22, of Piqua, who was operating a white 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 going southeast on Riverside Drive. This caused Penny’s bike to hit the front bumper/hood of Phipps’ black 2021 Nissan Sentra. Penny was ejected off the motorcycle, struck the Nissan’s windshield and landed on the ground. The motorcycle was unable to stop, said the crash report, and hit a suspension wire on a utility pole at North Downing and Camp Streets.

Penny was transported by Piqua EMS to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, and from there he was taken to another hospital by CareFlight.

Phipps was also taken, via an other vehicle, to Upper Valley Medical Center for evaluation.

Phipps’ vehicle was towed from the scene by Wreckers Towing.

Penny’s motorcycle was taken from the scene by Bushnells Collision “AAA.”
