Combine destroyed in Saturday fire

PLEASANT HILL — A farmer’s combine harvester is a total loss after it caught on fire Saturday afternoon while he was working in a soybean field in the Pleasant Hill area.

Dispatch received a report of a vehicle fire involving a combine near the intersection of Myers and Rench Roads at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

According to Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Jeff Alexander, the farmer called 911 and was able to escape after the combine he was operating caught on fire due to equipment failure. Firefighters were on the scene working to extinguish the fire until 4:51 p.m.

No one was transported to the hospital as no one was reported injured in the incident, Alexander said.

Covington Fire Department and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office assisted Pleasant Hill-Newton Township Fire, Rescue, EMS at the scene.
