VANDALIA — The Piqua football defense limited Vandalia-Butler to 172 yards, but turnovers were costly in the Aviators 17-7 win.

Piqua dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MVL and will look to get on track when its hosts Stebbins Friday night.

A 35-yard TD pass from Caiden Thomas to RayShawn Garrett late in the first half got Piqua to within 10-7 after Gavin Larger’s PAT kick.

But, Butler had the only touchdown of the second half.

Thomas completed nine of 22 passes for 122 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Joey Voskuhl caught three passes for 60 yards and Jericho Burns caught three passes for 49 yards.

Jericho Burns led the rushing attack with 16 carries for 56 yards.

Zaydyn Allen and Owen Shawler led the defense with eight tackles each.

Tippecanoe 41,

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe football team cruised to an easy win Friday, going to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MVL.

Tipp will play at Greenville Friday night.

Larkin Thomas completed 18 of 26 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns for Tipp.

Will Strong caught five passes for 56 yards and Jackson Davis caught four passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Dylan Herndon caught four passes for 57 yards and Grant Titley caught an eight-yard TD pass.

Xavier Melton and rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on six carries and Logan Butera had a one-yard TD run.

Owen Baileys kicked field goals of 20 and 33 yards and was 5-for-5 on PAT kicks.

Lucca Adkins and Gavin Newberg recovered fumbles and Chris Preece, Collin Isaac and Logan Potts all forced fumbles.

Isaac and Riley Nicholls led the defense with seven tackles.

Covington 14,

Dayton Christian 7

DAYTON — The Covington football team got a road win to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Covington will host Fort Loramie Friday night.

Jordan Miller ran three yards for a Covington score and Wyatt Parker’s kick gave the Buccs a 7-0 halftime lead.

Trenton Havenar returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Parker’s kick made it 14-0, before Dayton Christian had the final score of the game.

Landin Cassel was five of 20 passing for 17 yards for the Buccs.

Miller led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 132 yards.

Havenard forced two fumbles and recovered one, Garrett Leistner forced and recovered a fumble and Jack Blumenstock forced a fumble.

Havenar had a monster game on defense with 21 tackles, eight for loss and one sack.

Miller had 10 tackles, Sam Hellman had nine and Leistner added eight tackles.

Miami East 52,

Carlisle 36

CASSTOWN — The Miami East football team used an explosive offense to improve to 2-0 in the season.

The Vikings will travel to Northwestern Friday night.

Quarterback KJ Gustin had another big night.

The sophomore completed 18 of 25 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns.

Jake Hamaker had a huge game with seven catches for 212 yards and three touchdowns, one on an 85-yard pass.

Lincoln Littlejohn had six catches for 61 yards and one touchdown and Kaden Francis had five catches for 59 yards.

Aaron Mills had a big night on the ground with 191 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries.

Mills intercepted a pass, while Luke Bowsher forced a fumble and Evan Maxson and Vincent Crane recovered fumbles.

Bowsher had 14 tackles, Maxson had 12 tackles and Mills added 11 tackles.

Lehman Catholic 47,

SOUTH CHARLESTON — The Lehman Catholic football team evened its record at 1-1 with a road win Friday night.

Lehman will host Ben Logan Friday night.

BRANDT — The Bethel football team dropped to 1-1 on the season.

The Bees will play at Urbana Friday night.

SPRINGFIELD — The Troy Christian football team dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Eagles will host Bethel Friday night.

Valley View 49,

Milton-Union 7

GERMANTOWN — The Milton-Union football team dropped a road game Friday night.

The Bulldogs will host Oakwood Friday night.

Milton tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter when Evan Michael ran nine yards for a score and Chase Hammond kicked the PAT.

Valley View took a 37-7 lead by halftime and the Bulldogs could not score again.

Wyatt Kimmel was nine for 24 passing for 104 yards.

Charlie Lane had three catches for 41 yards and Seth Lowry had two catches for 34 yards.

Ian Coffey led the defense with six tackles.

Ansonia 60,

Bradford 12

ANSONIA — The Bradford football team dropped to 0-2 on the season Friday night.

The Railroaders will host Tri-County North Friday night.

Owen Canan completed 11 of 23 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Griffin Trevino caught two passes for 86 yards, Raiden Wombold caught three passes for 82 yards and one touchdown and Rallie Wirrig caught an 11-yard touchdown pass.

Canan had 15 tackles on defense, Wirrig had nine tackles and Trevino added eight tackles.

Isaiah Purpus intercepted a pass.
