The Covington Christian Church Women’s Fellowship will host their second salad luncheon drive-through tomorrow, Friday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or until everything is gone. Enter the drive-through from the alley off Pearl Street next to Covington Christian Church, and the CCC folks will deliver two containers full of their more popular salads, including the signature hot chicken salad and delicious desserts, all for a donation, right to your car window. All meals will be pre-packaged and ready for pickup, and unfortunately, they are not able to take special requests at this time. The pre-ordering ends today, June 17, by 1 p.m., so if one reads this column in time, call today to preorder and leave your donation, posthaste! And salads will be limited, so if you didn’t reserve already, please come early on Friday. The church phone to reserve deliciousness is (937) 473-3443.

The J.R. Clarke Public Library is in the midst of an extensive renovation and updating. But the activities of the library continue undiminished at their temporary location at 101 N. High St. (the former Hardware Store, to long-time Covingtonians). Miss Laurie will be presenting a Family StoryTime this summer at the Covington Community Park, each Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Children ages 3-5 can still be dropped off, but this is a program specialized to involve family members or childcare providers, and their children. Miss Laurie is associated with the Miami County Park District, so there will be many different types of outdoor activities involved. Please contact the Library at (937) 473-2226 to sign up, so enough activity materials are ordered.

And on several of these Tuesday mornings at the Community Park, the Miami County Park District will hold a StoryBook Trails in place of the traditional StoryTime. Each participant will walk from story book sign to story book sign, with Miss Laurie again as your guide, with an activity at the end of each trail. These special StoryBook Trail dates are June 29, July 20 and July 27, each Tuesday from 9:30-11 a.m. And again, please call the library to sign up.

The library’s 2021 Summer Adult Reading Program is currently ongoing at J.R. Clarke’s Alternative Site. Are you ready to read and react? Adults 18 and over can participate in this entertaining and amusing program of Imagination Bingo. Each participant will receive a paper bingo card, with categories of different genres in the bingo spaces. Simply read a type of book that matches the genre in each space, and when one has a horizontal or vertical line bingo, you win. Library patrons may play again and again until the program ends on July 31. It is open to all adults, and there will be prizes, as well as an end-of-the-program giveaway!

The Covington Ministerial Association is again holding its Sunday Golf Outing on Sunday, June 27 at Echo Hills in Piqua. This is a two-person scramble, playing nine holes. The cost is a mere $12 if you hoof it, and $20 to ride in the luxury of a golf cart. It has proven to be a fun outing of fellowship for area pastors, church friends, and anyone who enjoys a relaxed round of chasing the white ball. Contact Ron Schultz at (937) 416-4992 for more information and to sign up.

And lastly, the Covington Christian Church is currently in the midst of its annual Food for Children free summer lunch program. This past Monday saw the first one take place, but on each successive Monday through Aug. 9, your child can receive a delicious free lunch and enjoy a variety of faith-based activities. This takes place each week on Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Covington Community Park.

This is the church’s seventh year for the program, and it is designed for children 2-17 years of age. Children under the age of 4 must be accompanied by an adult. Each week, the child will receive a meal at the park along with fun faith-based activities. All children in need will also receive a bag of grocery items to take home for the rest of the week. Only children who attend may receive a grocery bag for that week. This program is only able to serve the Covington School District, so please bring proof of address (utility bill, etc.) to register. Pre-registration is preferred and available at the church office, Mondays-Thursdays from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m., or call (937) 473-3443. There will also be on-site registration available at the park.
