TROY — Madison Hickman has announced her intention to seek the Republican nomination in the 2025 primary election to serve on Troy City Council representing Troy’s Third Ward.

Originally from Jackson Center, the political newcomer has made Troy her home, working as a curly hair specialist at Ruby’s Beauty Salon on Troy’s Public Square, said a press release.

“Being on the Public Square every day gives me a unique perspective on downtown issues,” Hickman said in the release. “I witness the traffic, the parking challenges, the pedestrian flow—everything. My clients come from all over the Midwest, bringing insights as both residents and visitors. Their perspectives have deepened my understanding of our town.”

Hickman played a pivotal role in establishing the Village Salon in Troy eight years ago, an experience that shaped her commitment to the community.

“Village Salon is what brought me here,” said Hickman. “Launching that small business required hard work and dedication. I understand the needs of service-based businesses in our downtown.”

Hickman believes there is a disconnect between City Hall and the residents of the Third Ward.

“The Third Ward is home to some of our city’s oldest neighborhoods and a significant portion of downtown. Many of my neighbors feel that their concerns have been overlooked,” Hickman said.

In the coming weeks, Hickman plans to engage with her neighbors to discuss the issues facing the Third Ward.

“My family and I love supporting local businesses and attending downtown events. I’m always out talking with others about the challenges and opportunities in our community,” she said.

Hickman noted that while the Republican Primary Election is not until May 2025, she believes it’s important to start this work now. This early announcement reflects her commitment to running a successful and meaningful campaign.
