TROY — The Miami County Commissioners authorized an annexation of over 329 acres from Washington Township to the city of Piqua at their meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The city of Piqua and Washington Township agreed to the annexation agreement on May 2, 2006.

The county engineer’s map department reviewed the map and legal description of the territory proposed for the annexation according to Section 709.022 of the Ohio Revised Code and submitted a letter stating that the map and legal description of the territory proposed for annexation meet their requirements.

Matthew McQuade of McQuade Economic Advisors, representing the Underhill and Hodge Agency LLC, addressed the commissioners at the meeting.

“We are working in the city of Piqua on master planning this area for development, which will require the extension of water and sewer. We are still in a relatively early phase, but at a point where it is time to move forward with the annexation,” McQuade said.

Piqua City Manager Paul Oberdorfer told the Miami Valley Today he was excited about annexation and there will be more details to share sometime next month.
