Piqua Central High School celebrates 70th class reunion

PIQUA — Piqua Central High School Class of 1954 celebrated its 70th class reunion over the weekend of Sept. 20 and 21.

On Friday, Sept. 20, several classmates met at Bits and Pieces in Piqua and enjoyed rolled ice cream. They continued on to the Johnston Farm for a ride on the canal boat followed by tours of the museum and historical home.

Friday evening, several attended the Piqua vs. Greenville football game at Alexander Stadium, Purk Field in Piqua. The group was recognized during the game festivities.

Attending the Friday activities were: Judy Tinkler Walton, Lois Quinn Moellenkamp and Bill, David Black and Corey Alspaugh, Chuck and Marge Strohmenger and Nancy Woodbury Woods.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m., the class gathered for a program and dinner. Rex Baker emceed the program and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, the Alma Mater and Fight Song.

A moment of silence and prayer by Gwen Bard Karr remembering deceased classmates was held with appropriate comments by other classmates. All classmates participated in sharing their activities the past 70 years.

Greetings from Piqua City Schools Superintendent Dwayne Thompson was also shared. He could not attend because of other school activities being held at the same time.

A group picture was taken and classmates and guests continued reminiscing and enjoying dinner. Many memories continued being made, even after 70 years.

Contributions to PEF in memory of deceased classmates were made by the group.

All veterans were encouraged to send their military information and history to the high school to be placed on the Wall of Honor.

There are 47 of the original 141 classmates living. Fourteen live out of state and several were unable to travel or attend because of other obligations. Several were accompanied by family and friends to assist with travel. Traveling from Arizona were Chuck Strohmenger and his wife Marge.

Notes were received and shared from several who could not attend.

The Class of 1954 meet monthly for lunch on the first Tuesday of each month at noon at China East Buffet in Piqua. All classmates are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly lunch. No reservations are required. One just needs to come and enjoy the food and fellowship.

The reunion was planned by several of the classmates that attend the monthly lunches.
