Tippecanoe, Bethel boys soccer teams advance in sectional action

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe boys soccer team opened defense of its state title with an 8-0 win over Xenia stopped in the second half by goal differentiation.

The Red Devils, last year’s D-II state champion, are competing in D-III with soccer expanding to five divisions.

Tipp, 12-2-3 and the second seed, advances to host 14 seed Bellefontaine at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Landon Haas had a big game for the Red Devils, scoring five goals and picking up one assist.

Dominic Mendiola had one goal and dished out three assists and Colin Turner had one goal and one assist.

Evan McIntyre scored a goal and Eli Kettel had one assist.

Jace Sawyer had the shutout in goal.

Bethel 9,

Meadowdale 0

BRANDT — In D-IV sectional action, Bethel boys soccer team only had to play a half before the game was stopped for goal differentiation at Bethel High School Tuesday night.

Bethel, 16-2-0 and the two seed, will host 16 seed Carlisle at 7 pm. Saturday night.

“These are games that you hope you don’t get sloppy habits from,” Bethel coach Bob Hamlin said. “But, we came out of the game with no injuries and should be good for Saturday’s match.”

David Kasimov had three goals and two assists and Logan Newell scored two goals.

Phil Dix had one goal and three assists and Jake Smith had one goal and one assist.

John Sebastian had one goal and Kam Etmans, Cody DeLaet and John Gulaliev all had one assist.

Reed Dix and Will Dobmyer combined for the shutout in goal.

Saturday Slate

It will be a big day and night of boys sectional soccer Saturday.

Along with Tippecanoe and Bethel, 10 seed Piqua will host 13 seed Franklin at 7 p.m. at Wertz Stadium in D-III action.

In another D-IV game, 14 seed Miami East will travel to 11 seed Northwestern for a 7 p.m. game.

Three teams will be in action in D-VII.

At 2 p.m., 11 seed Lehman Catholic will host 13 seed Preble Shawnee.

At 7 p.m.. 3 seed Troy Christian will host 17 seed Franklin Monroe and 7 seed Milton-Union will host 8 seed Jackson Center.
