Troy Chamber to lease space at Hobart Center

TROY — The Miami County Commissioners authorized the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce to lease a new space at the Hobart Center for County Government at their meeting on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The space, located at 510 W. Water St. constitutes roughly 2,318-square-feet within the building, and a provision to use assigned parking spaces as designated.

The yearly base rent is $19,123.50 for the first year of the property and is prorated for December 2024 with a 3% increase from the previous year’s square foot rental rate and multiplied by the then current square footage contained in the premises to calculate the yearly rent due, to be payable in four equal quarterly installments per year.

Michael Clarey, chief administration officer for the commissioner’s office, discussed partnership with the commissioners.

“This is a really good partnership for the county,” he said. “Not only will this lease revenue help toward the expenses of the building for what is currently a vacant space but additionally, they plan to put quite a bit of investment into their space and improve the facility.”

“Our plans as a commission are to remarket and rebrand that building,” Commissioner Ted Mercer said. “I know we’re going to do some additional landscaping, and some new signage by the Chamber of Commerce of Troy and the development council that they’re going to bring over there. It’s going to it’s going to almost turn that building into another one-stop center for the public.”

In other business, the commissioners amended two resolutions:

• The Miami County Healthy Aging Grant Agreement with the Miami County Community Action Council (CAC). Upon review, it was determined that the needed by the CAC to fund all applications is $39,000 and not $33,000 as previously approved. They requested $6,000 in additional funding to provide mortgage assistance to low to moderate-income (LMI) seniors. The Department of Development staff have recommended approval of said increase in funding.

• Credit card expenditure requests for the commissioners’ office for July, August, and September, and authorize additional travel expenses for $2,150 for card numbers with the last four digits ending in 1782 and 1774.

Commissioner Wade Westfall did not attend the meeting.
