TROY — Troy City Skatepark Unite, Inc. received a donation Friday, Sept. 13, of $5,000 from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5436 in Troy to go towards the development of a new skatepark in the community.

“This was such a pleasant surprise. To have these men and women who have served our country see the value in the work we are doing speaks for itself, and we are extremely grateful for their financial support,” said Matt Williams, president of Troy City Skatepark Unite Inc., a local nonprofit organization created to improve the park, in a press release.

“Personally, this is important to me,” added Williams, “My father served in Vietnam and my brother was in the Marines for Operation Freedom. Having the support of our veterans community means a lot to our effort.”

Troy City Skatepark Unite Inc. also wants to continue to inform the community of the annual Keep Pushing event that will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Joe Reardon Skatepark from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event will feature skateboarding demonstrations and contests along with free food, live music and raffle prizes.
