HUBER HEIGHTS — Wawa is hosting a special groundbreaking ceremony and event to officially launch construction at its Huber Heights location on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 10-11 a.m. (Feeding America Hunger Action Day) at 4949 Chambersburg Road.

Wawa – a privately held, family-owned chain of over 1,060 convenience retail stores currently operating in eight states and Washington, D.C. – is thrilled to be spreading its wings and flying into Ohio communities. Wawa looks forward to sharing more details on locations, expansion plans, community investment, and timeline to opening its doors to new friends as well as sharing its core purpose of fulfilling lives, every day through its unique offering of food, fuel, and convenience services.

The event will mark Wawa’s first store to break ground in the Dayton region. The event will give attendees the chance to learn more about Wawa’s unique history and culture, provide an update on expansion plans both locally and in additional Ohio markets, showcase local investments and job opportunities, and connect the company with new friends, neighbors, customers, local officials, and charity partners.

The event takes place on Hunger Action Day, and The Wawa Foundation will announce plans to support programs serving youth and fighting food insecurity in the region. As a fresh food and beverage provider, Wawa will express its deep commitment to fighting food insecurity on Feeding America’s Hunger Action Day by presenting a $10,000 “Fly Beyond” grant to The FoodBank, Inc., which will provide access to fresh and nutritious foods for 40,000 underserved youth in the community. In addition, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation will announce the launch of a Hunger Action Challenge in conjunction with The FoodBank as well as additional support for The USO and Special Olympics Polar Plunges.

Attendees can expect to enjoy a “Taste of Wawa,” including samples of food and beverages, remarks from Wawa leadership, state and local officials, and charity partners, Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose, interacting with attendees, and breaking ground with hardhats and shovels, plus a “coming soon” sign unveiling.
