WEST MILTON — Covington senior Elyza Long has battle injuries her whole high school running career.

She was determing to change that this year — and while she has always been successful, she has taken it to another level.

Long followed winning the Piqua Night Race two weeks ago by becoming the “Queen” of the County Saturday.

Long ran away with the Miami County Invitational race, winning in 19:34.9, almost 37 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Elisabeth Waltz of Troy Christian.

“It seems like I have always had to battle a lot of injuries,” Long said. “I was really determined this year and worked hard to make sure I didn’t have any injuries. Winning the County meet was definitely a goal.”

Newton won the team title with 67 points.

Michaela Flora led the Indians with a fourth-place finish in 20:13.9.

The rest of Newton’s top seven included Claire Stull, 10, 21:39.1; Cole Thompson, 14, 22:02.6; Gentri Deaton, 17, 22:23.8; Emily Flora, 22, 23:08.4; Ellie Bradshaw, 31, 23:49.8 and Evelyn Case, 47, 25:44.5.

Troy was second with 71.

The Trojans top seven included Isabel Westerheide, 7, 21:22.5; Avyn Spagnola, 11, 21:40.7; McKenna Lynch, 16, 22:33.3; Kaylee Strayer, 18, 22:36.9; Peyton Scott, 19, 22:40.2; Kennedy Harlamert, 20, 22:52.7 and Ruby Zimmerman, 24, 23:12.6.

Milton-Union was third.

The Bulldogs top seven included Aubree Bates, 5, 20:46.4; Sydnie Bartlett, 8, 21:30.9; Madalyn Korte, 25, 23:25.6; Amelia Iddings, 37, 24:22.8; Alaina Manning, 43, 24:56.2; Jessa Lightner, 46, 25:31.6 and Lola Taylor, 69, 28:26.7.

Miami East finished fourth.

The Vikings top seven included Teaghan Kress, 13, 21:51.4; Grace Shively, 21, 23:00.3; Addy Fine, 23, 23:12.7; Savannah Pellman 32, 23:57.2;Isabella Bobillo, 36, 24:10.2 and Kara Hale, 58, 26:43.8.

Covington finished fifth.

Also running for the Buccs were Kassidy Turner, 15, 22:15.8; Lucy Welborn, 27, 23:33.5; Bella Welch, 33, 24:00.9; Willow Pellman, 49, 26:04.6; and Serenity Weaver, 75, 29:47.5.

Bethel finished sixth.

The Bees were led by Olivia Brumbaugh, who finished third in 20:11.8.

The rest of Bethel’s top seven were Alyssandra Periano, 8, 21:28.9; Natalie Sonnanstine, 12, 21:40.9; Taylor Kaeff, 61, 26:34.6; Emma Berberich, 82, 31:18.3; Keira Mallet, 85, 35:02.0 and Shiritha Kutcherlapati, 86, 35:34.6.

Troy Christian finished eighth.

Waltz took second in 20:11.3.

The rest of the Eagles runners included Joy Myers, 26, 23:29.9; Lila Echemann, 38, 24:25.0; Annaliese Erdahl, 53, 26:23.2; Norah Rocke, 73, 28:55.7 and Anna Lee, 83, 37:31.3.

Valkyrie Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Tippecanoe girls ran in the varsity race at the Valkyrie Invitational Saturday.

Tipp’s top seven included Morgan Collins, 10, 20:25.93; Sydney Labreck, 23, 21:07.63; Katelynn Beeson, 30, 21:28.14; Mary Waibel, 65, 22:45.95; Kali Greth, 77, 23:03.44; Gracie Raiff, 86, 23:18.94 and Aubrey Davis, 92, 23:25.46.

Sidney Invitational

SIDNEY — The Lehman Catholic girls cross country team was second at the Sidney Invitational Saturday and Piqua took third.

Lehman’s top seven included Margaret Schmiesing, 4, 22:25.8; Ava Reineke, 8, 22:58.4; Julia Gudorf, 10, 22:12.2; Anna Minneci, 12, 24:13.3; Madelyn Neslon, 18, 25:25.0; Rosemarie Schmiesing, 19, 25:40.8 and Zippy Bezy, 23, 26:18.4.

Piqua runners included Ashlyn Gearhardt, 9, 22:59.1; Lucy Weiss, 11, 23:21.3; Alyssa York, 15, 24:20.8; Kendall Soto, 17, 24:41.4; Bailey Quinter, 22, 25:53.0 and Libby Jane Magoteaux, 26, 27:47.0.

Tour De Sewer

VERSAILLES — The Bradford girls cross country team competed in the Tour de Sewer race Saturday.

Railroader runners included Emma Lavey, 23, 23:13.3; Savannah Beachler, 29, 23:46.2; Nataie Wood, 43, 24:27.9 and Daphne Lavey, 80, 29:21.1.
