TIPP CITY — The premiere performance of the Miami Valley Youth Choir was held on Sunday, Dec. 12. Fourteen weeks of rehearsal and lots of hard work prepared the students for their premiere. The concert was held at Tipp City United Methodist Church. Selections included “The Peace Carol,” “Under Winter Moon,” “Winter Dream,” “Et In Terra Pax,” “Noel Sing Noel,” “Up Up Up and Away,” “Elf Theme Song,” and “Christmas Time Is Here.”

Miami Valley Youth Choir was started this fall at the request of families looking for a quality choral experience in the area. Miami Valley Youth Choir currently offers experiences for youth aged 6-18 in two different groups (Chorus, 6-12, and Ensemble, 13-18). MVYC rehearses on Tuesdays at the south campus of Ginghamsburg UMC.

Inspired by the indomitable Kettering Children’s Choir, Miami Valley Youth Choir was created to provide a missing artistic outlet specifically for youth in the northern Miami Valley. Miami Valley Youth Choir is presently comprised of youth from Tipp City, Troy, Vandalia, Englewood, Piqua, Pleasant Hill, Covington, Huber Heights, and surrounding regions. The group strives for musical excellence, artistic performances, and lasting friendships. At weekly rehearsals, participants learn vocal techniques, note reading, sight singing, and musicality.

Miami Valley Youth Choir is a non-profit organization sponsored by Connections of Tipp City. The choirs are directed by Barbara Cooper, Julie Collins, and two college music interns, Caitlyn Hood (UD) and Elise Cooper (WSU).

The Miami Valley Youth Choir is currently gearing up for their second semester, and directors are excited about the continuing growth of the choral groups. More information is available on Facebook or by calling (937) 361-7407.
