TIPP CITY — Tipp Monroe Community Services is offering a 5-week music class for grades K-5 called Music Makers. This class is perfect for homeschoolers. Classes begin on Monday, Feb. 7. Students will meet from 11-11:45 a.m. at the TMCS building located at 3 E. Main St. in Tipp City. The instructor is Kristy Morrow from the Wee Music Studio. The cost to participate is $60 for Tipp City residents and $62 for non-residents. For more information and registration, visit tmcomservices.org or weemusicstudio.com.

The course is based on the work and approach of composer, musician, and educator Carl Orff. The structure allows students to be musicians during the music process and learn about musical concepts as a byproduct of their learning experience. Students will experience an active music making approach through the use of speech, singing, playing, and moving. The music making will be a community experience, and the concepts will be built upon through this course. A designated time will be used in class for students to work in small groups on music concepts for their developmental level. The class will be held again beginning on March 21. Registration begins Jan. 17 for both classes.

Morrow, a graduate from John Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, has a passion for helping families experience and create music together. She has been a licensed music educator since 2006. Morrow has experience teaching in public, independent, and private schools, working with students in preschool through eighth grade in general music classes, choir, and string ensembles. She has also taught side by side music classes for infants and preschoolers, as well as worked with small groups of students for various summer music camps. In 2001, she began her own private studio and continues to give private lessons for piano and violin. She has completed Orff Levels and uses this approach with students, creating a fun and active music making experience where students are engaged.
