PIQUA — The Piqua boys basketball team held on for a 34-32 win in a defensive battle against Vandalia-Butler in MVL action at Garbry Gymnasium.

Piqua, 11-7 overall and 10-4 in the MVL, completed a season sweep of the Aviators, who dropped to 7-11 overall and 7-7 in the MVL.

Neither team ever led by more than five points in the contest.

A 3-pointer by Bryson Roberts propelled Piqua to a 12-8 lead after one quarter.

But, Butler answered with the first seven points of the second quarter and it was tied 17-17 at the break.

Butler had a 20-19 lead late in the third quarter, before Piqua ran off six straight points on baskets by Tanner Kemp, Bryson Roberts and Anson Cox to lead 25-20 going to the fourth quarter.

Butler’s Evan Ables hit a 3-pointer with 3:00 to go to put the Aviators up 32-31, before Piqua scored the final three points of the game.

Cox scored with 2:40 to go to give Piqua the lead for good at 33-32.

After Butler failed to score, Piqua ran more than a minute off the clock, before missing the front end of a one-and-one with 41.1 seconds to go.

The Indians’ Colton Beougher got the rebound on the missed free throw, but Butler’s Casey Bennett would come up with a steal.

After Butler called timeout with 33.4 seconds to go, the Aviators would again fail to score.

Dre’Sean Roberts would make one of two free throws with 10.4 seconds to go to make it 34-32.

Beougher again came down with the rebound, but Butler got the ball back and Piqua — with two fouls to give — would commit one just before the buzzer sounded.

After 1.5 seconds was put on the clock — and after three timeouts — Butler would miss a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Cox led Piqua with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Josh Crusey scored six points,

Beougher pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots and Dre’Sean Roberts had six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Tristin Vandervort had half of Butler’s point total with 16 and added five rebounds and three steals.

Ables had eight points and seven rebounds and Bennett had eight rebounds and three steals.

Piqua was 14 of 37 from the floor for 38 percent, but made just three of 15 free throw attempts for 20 percent.

Butler was 13 of 40 from the floor for 33 percent and three of four from the line for 75 percent.

Piqua won the battle of the boards 31-27 and had 10 turnovers to Butler’s 15.

Troy 48

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe boys basketball team maintained its lead in the MVL with a 58-48 win over Troy Saturday night.

The Red Devils improved to 13-3 overall and 12-1 in the MVL, while Troy dropped to 8-11 overall and 8-8 in the MVL.

Gavin Garlitz had 23 points, five rebounds and four steals for Tippecanoe, while Stanley Clyne had 16 points and three steals.

Josh Dietz scored seven points, Luke Hoover had five rebounds and Maddox Savon had five steals.

Charlie Walker had 13 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for Troy and Isaac Phillips scored 13 points.

Noah Davis had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals and Kellen Miller had six points and two blocked shots.

Zach King had 10 rebounds and blocked two shots.

GIRLS

Troy 64,

Piqua 19

PIQUA — The Troy girls basketball team improved to 14-7 overall and 14-3 in the MVL.

The Trojans can clinch a share of the Miami Division title Tuesday with a win at home against Stebbins.

Piqua closed the regular season at 3-19 overall and 3-15 in the MVL.

The Indians jumped out to a 9-8 lead after one quarter, before Troy took control.

The Trojans took a 34-11 halftime lead and increased it to 56-14 after three quarters.

Macie Taylor had 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals and Kiyah Baker had nine points and five rebounds.

Brynn Siler had seven points, eight rebounds and blocked seven shots and Madalynn Hughes had eight points and four steals.

Morgan Kaiser had eight points and seven rebounds and Amyannah Tucker scored eight points.

Kenzi Anderson scored 10 points for Piqua.

Reagan Toopes scored five points and D’Vaya Cooper blocked two shots.

Vandalia 45,

Tipp 39

VANDALIA — The Butler girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to clinch a share of the MVL Miami Division title.

Butler is 18-3 overall and 15-3 in the MVL. Tipp dropped to 11-10 overall and 10-8 in the MVL.

Tipp led 12-5, 23-14 and 29-27 at the quarter breaks.

Troy Christian 36,

Northwestern 27

TROY — The Troy Christian girls basketball team improved to 11-9 with a home-court win Saturday.

Brooklyn Lavy filled out the stat sheet with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and seven steals.

Jocey Hill had 10 points and Sarah Johnson had seven points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots.

Bradford 49,

Ansonia 33

BRADFORD — The Bradford girls basketball team improved to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in the WOAC.

Austy Miller had 21 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocked shots.

Rylee Canan had 12 points and four steals and Abby Fike added nine points.

Brooklyn Crickmore pulled down eight rebounds.
