The Piqua Show Choir, “The Company,” competed on Feb. 5 at Hurricane Red Hot Championship 2022 in Hurricane, West Virginia, and was named Grand Champion at the competition.

PIQUA – On Saturday, Feb. 5, the Piqua Show Choir, “The Company,” competed at Hurricane Red Hot Championship 2022 in Hurricane, West Virginia against 10 other groups from several states. Even against all these groups, the Company won Grand Champion for their “stellar performance,” according to show choir Director Tom Westfall. At this competition, The Company received best vocals, best band, best costumes, and people’s choice.
The Company also won first place at their competition on Jan. 29 at Findlay High School. At this competition, they received best vocals, best choreography, best band, best show concept, best costumes, and people’s choice.
Westfall stated, “It’s very exciting [to win Grand Champion], and the kids are working super hard. It’s a really great show and a great product. Judges are loving what they’re doing.”
The Company’s show consists of six different pieces. They open with a vocal teaser “Alone” by Heart. The next song is “Come on Over Baby” by Christina Aguilera. Following that, the next song is “Come Dance with Me” by Michael Bublé. Then they perform a ballad, “Together.” According to Westfall, the Piqua Band has their own feature performing “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. They finished the show with “Misery Business” by Paramore.
The Company will be performing their show locally at the “Just Us” Concert on May 21 at Piqua High School.
Following their competition at Hurricane, West Virginia, most of the Company members along with staff and parents went to the local Piqua Waffle House for food. According to Westfall, “The staff members informed the students they would stay open until the group returned from their competition.” The group arrived back around 1:30-2 a.m. and went to eat. While there, the group collected cash for a tip and the group raised over $400 to be split between the three staff workers. Not only did they raise an impressive tip, the group helped clean the place including taking out trash and cleaning tables, according to Westfall.
Westfall proudly stated, “I think that the life lesson and that experience has more meaning than actually winning the trophy.”
