VERSAILLES — Versailles Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a 112-bed post-acute and skilled nursing facility, celebrates Occupational Therapy Month with a Senior Citizen Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, April 26. All interested seniors, caregivers, and family members with a loved one needing care are welcome to attend.

The event will be held off-site, at Birchwood Training & Senior Center, 5844 Jaysville-St. Johns Road, Greenville, Ohio. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Social distancing will be maintained and, in addition to lunch and an exciting educational program, Versailles Rehab will offer free giveaways.

Occupational therapy is rehabilitation that helps people better participate in their meaningful everyday activities, such as engaging with family and friends, keeping one’s own house, and more. For people that are recovering from an accident or injury, occupational therapy can help them again do they activities they want to do.

The April 26 event – designed to teach seniors how occupational therapy helps facilitate participation in daily living – will include a demonstration of the interactive, leading-edge RESTORE Skills technology.

Carol Lyons, Administrator of Versailles Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, speaks highly of RESTORE, the online, gaming-based system that allows patients, residents, and their family members to participate jointly in physical and occupational therapy sessions, live.

“Versailles Rehab’s residents use this system not only to keep working on their strength and cognitive improvement, but also to integrate their family members in their sessions,” said Lyons. “Family members can log in, video chat, encourage their loved ones, and even play games along with them.”

She noted that RESTORE has a wide range of video game-like activities tailored to the skill level of the patient and resident, who can play the games while watching loved ones play them at home. “As important as physical therapy may be, also important is emotional well-being, and our patients, residents, and their loved ones improve their emotional health by doing activities together again,” said Lyons.

Seating is limited so reservations are required. For further information or to RSVP, contact Beth Bell at [email protected], or call 937-418-6852.
