PIQUA — Two young entrepreneurs recently opened their own salon, Smoke and Mirrors Salon and Spa, in Piqua. Co-owners Sarah Bynum, 21, and Celeste Caldwell, 23, opened their salon on Feb. 1, 2023.

The salon, located at 125 Bridge St. in Piqua, offers a variety of salon and spa services. With a staff of seven stylists, technicians and estheticians the salon offers services ranging from hair cuts, color and styling to full body waxing, lashes, spray tanning and nails.

Bynum and Caldwell, both of Piqua, came together for different reasons to meet the same end goal, opening their own salon. Bynum grew up around the industry because of her mom and her time at Studio 36 working with her mother. Caldwell, however, always had the goal of owning her own salon by 30 years old and met Bynum when working at Studio 36.

“Mainly, just because I feel like with salons, a lot of the stigma is drama and things like that and I wanted a different atmosphere,” said Caldwell.

The staff at Smoke and Mirrors are accepting walk-ins and new clients, but new clients can also book online at https://smokeandmirrorssalon.co or by calling the salon at 937-451-0804.

The current staff includes seven individuals, including Bynum and Caldwell, that offer a variety of services. According to the co-owners, the staff make their own schedules depending on when their clients are scheduled.

Caldwell graduated beauty school in 2018 and became a master extension specialist in 2019 through Bellami Professional. She offers a variety of hair styling services including Brazilian blowouts and K18 and Olaplex treatments. She also does full body waxing.

Bynum graduated from Creative Images Institute in 2020 and is a dual licensed esthetician and nail technician. She offers facials, eyelash extensions and all forms of nail art.

Andrew Young is another hairstylist at Smoke and Mirrors who graduated from Paul Mitchell in Columbus in 2020. Young’s specialities include dimensional brunettes, blonding and hair cutting.

Mckenzie Stephenson, a hairstylist who specializes in textured hair cutting and vivid coloring, earned her license after graduating in 2020 from Aveda Fredric’s Institute in Cincinnati.

Cierra Deeter, Smoke and Mirrors’ eyelash artist, has been a licensed cosmetologist since 2016 and a licensed lash artist since 2020.

Delaney Roswell, licensed since 2020, specializes in Olaplex treatments and lived-in colors and blonding techniques.

Brookelyn England, licensed in 2022 from Creative Images Institute of Cosmetology, specializes in blonding services, color and will soon be certified to do hand-tied extensions.
