Scholarships available

TROY — The Troy Noon Optimist Club Scholarship Committee has announced it is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship awards. Every April, the Troy Noon Optimists award five scholarships of $1,000 each to distinguished area graduating seniors who live within Troy’s 45373 zip code district.

Applications are available through the guidance offices of Troy High School, Troy Christian High School, Miami East High School and Lehman Catholic High School as well as on the Troy Noon Optimist Facebook page. The completed applications along with the required handwritten personal statements and supporting documentation must be submitted back to the Guidance Offices of the appropriate schools by April 1, 2021. Scholarship winners will be notified by the Troy Noon Optimist Club about when and where to appear to receive their awards and be recognized by the club.

Birders club to meet

TROY — Geared toward students in grades sixth through 12th with an interest in birding, membership in the Young Birders Club is $10 per year, plus high quality binoculars and field guides are provided for meetings and field trips.

Join members from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Brukner Nature Center for this month’s meeting. With winter set fully upon us, most of the birds we see are those winter residents that have been here already for a few months. Through the Great Backyard Bird Count, participants can help keep track of these populations and join in a global effort to count as many birds in one weekend as possible. Data from all over the world can then be combined to give a snapshot of bird populations on the planet. Help staff and volunteers count the birds found at BNC as we strive to increase the understanding of bird populations and movement here and around the world.
