MCPH receives grant

TROY — Miami County Public Health (MCPH) has announced the receipt of a $1,890 grant from the Troy Foundation.

With the funds provided, MCPH will be purchasing promotional items to distribute to community members that visit their COVID-19 clinics.

MCPH has been combating the COVID-19 pandemic for a year now and with vaccination efforts well underway, staff continues to help increase community awareness and education. These promotional items include pens and COVID-19 vaccination stickers. The vaccination stickers will be given to individuals after they have received the COVID-19 vaccination to help spread awareness of the vaccine. The pens will be distributed to those who visit the health department to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. These pens would be given out during registration and will help keep people safe as we would not have multiple people using the same pens, reducing the spread of germs.

Easter Egg Splash scheduled at YMCA

TROY — The annual Easter Egg Splash for the Miami County YMCA Piqua Branch is set for April 3. The “hunt” itself will take place in the small pool of the facility with events starting in the Activity Center.

“The event is for ages 6 and under and we ask parents to get in with their little ones,” said Donn Shade, aquatic director for the Piqua branch. “It’s a fun way for some of the younger kids to hunt for eggs while acclimating to the water.”

The event on April 3 will be divided into three sections this year to accommodate social distancing requirements. Participants may sign up for a 1 or 2 p.m. time slot. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required.

The event is free for members and $5 for nonmembers.
