Busy Saturday in prep sports

Saturday will be a big day for local high school sports athletes.

FOOTBALL

Troy Christian will play at Portsmouth Notre Dame in a Division VII, Region 28 playoff.

In Friday’s paper, the story should have said Lee Burkett was the Troy Christian quarterback, not Landon Rich.

The Miami Valley Today apologizes for the error.

CROSS COUNTRY

The regional cross country meet will be held at Troy, with berths in the state meet on the line.

The D-III girls race will kick off things at 9 a.m., with the top four teams and any individuals in the top 16 advancing to state.

Running in the race will be

Running will be Covington’s Elyza Long, Newton’s McKenna Downing and Miami East’s Maryn Gross.

The D-III boys race will run at 10 a.m. with the top four teams and any individuals in the top 16 advancing to state.

Competing will be Asher Long and Mic Barhorst, Covington; Elijah Willmeth, Miami East and Clint Shellenberger, Newton.

The D-II girls race will be run at noon, with the top three teams and any individuals in the top 12 advancing to state.

Competer in the race will be Tippecanoe girls (Annie Sinning, Gracie Wead, Shelby Hept, Katie Landis, Leda Anderson, Libby Krebs and Isa Ramos.

The D-II boys race will be at 1 p.m. with the top four teams and any individuals in the top 16 advancing to state.

Competing will be Kyle Bostick, Milton-Union.

The D-I girls race will be held at 3 p.m. with the top five teams and any individuals in the top 20 advancing to state.

Competing will be Renee Kovacs, Troy.

The D-I boys race will finish things up at 4 p.m., with the top five teams and any individuals in the top 20 qualifying for state.

Competing will be Troy (Braden Coate, Matthew Spayde, Will Schaefer, Gavin Hutchingson, Kyle McCord, Luke Plaisier and Cooper Gambrell); Tippecanoe (Dylan Taylor, Ben Prenger, Ben Brunswick, Ben Huber, Will Hept, Kalib Tolle and Allan Murray) and Piqua’s Noah Burgh.

BOYS SOCCER

There will be district championship games Saturday night.

Tippecanoe will play Wyoming at 7 p.m. at Bellbrook High School and Bethel and Miami East will play at 7 p.m. at Bellefontaine High School.

VOLLEYBALL

The Tippecanoe volleyball team will play for a D-II district title at Trent Arena.

Tipp will play Hamilton Badin at 2 p.m.
