Commissioners approve police protection

MIAMI COUNTY — The Board of Miami County Commissioners approved police protection for Bethel Township on behalf of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office during the commissioners’ meeting Tuesday morning.

The commissioners authorized entering into a contract with Bethel Township on behalf of Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak for the purpose of providing police protection to Bethel Township for the period of Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2020. The cost is approximately $110,138, plus fuel costs, for the provision of 8.5 hours a day of law enforcement services. A representative from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said this is a 4 percent increase from last year.

The commissioners also authorized services of First Systems, Inc. of Troy for the collection of recyclables at events and festivals within Miami County for the calendar years 2020 and 2021. The cost is not to exceed approximately $10,850 per year.

The commissioners then authorized the final change order for the installation of product wells 8A and 9A at the Miami County Incinerator Site. The change order is for the cost reduction of approximately $12,256, with the revised final contract amount with Danis Builders, LLC of Miamisburg being approximately $259.093.

After their general session, the commissioners approved two zoning applications, including:

• A request from Robert Turner of Tipp City to rezone approximately 8.414 acres located at 4845 Kessler-Frederick Road from general agriculture to single family residential.

• A request from Patricia Long of Troy to rezone approximately 2 acres located at 6480 Troy-Sidney Road from agriculture to single family residential.The 2 acres are part of an existing 56.991 acre parcel that will remain zoned for agriculture.
