TROY – Thursday, Oct. 13, Judge Jeannine N. Pratt with Miami County Common Pleas Court found Mark J. Mayor, 47, of Covington, to be a “mentally-ill person” who is unable to withstand trial.

Mayor is facing murder and felonious assault charges after allegedly killing his father, David N. Mayor, 72. The incident occurred on the 6000 block of Myers Road in Newton Township.

Mayor will remain in possession of the psychiatric hospital for competency restoration for the next year to assist Mayor in helping his mental health conditions.

A second competency evaluation was requested on July 28, 2022, for “evaluation of the defendant’s overall sanity and sanity at the time of the offense,” according to court documents, which was granted on Aug. 30. The evaluation was completed by a doctor at the hospital and was received by the court on Oct. 3. Both councils had time to review the report.
