Edison State hoop teams sweep Bryant & Stratton

SOLON — The Edison State men and women’s basketball teams swept Bryant & Stratton Saturday in OCCAC action.

MEN

The Edison State men improved to 12-4 with an 83-70 victory.

The Chargers led 35-23 at halftime and maintained that advantage in the second half.

Segou Maiga had 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Chargers.

Ibrahima Athie had 17 points and six rebounds and Jordan Howard scored 15 points.

Jakob Reed scored 11 points and Jaylen Robinson netted seven points.

Edison State was 32 of 60 from the floor for 53 percent, including five of 12 from long ranged for 42 percent.

The Chargers converted 14 of 18 free throws for 78 percent.

Bryant & Stratton was 25 off 66 from the floor for 38 percent, including seven of 22 from long range for 32 percent.

The Bobcats made 13 of 14 free throws for 93 percent.

The Bobcats won the battle of the boards 33-32 and had 12 turnovers to Edison’s seven.

WOMEN

The Edison State women improved to 18-0 overall and 5-0 in the OCCAC with a 96-72 win.

Edison led 26-19, 41-33 and 70-49 at the quarter breaks.

Whitney Staggs had 21 points and five assists and Kailah Johnson also scored 21 points.

Allison Siefring had 14 points and seven rebounds and Maddy Bakosh also scored 14 points and had eight assists.

Niah Johnson added 12 points and Rylie McIver dished out four assists.

Edison was 43 of 74 from the floor for 58 percent, including four of 12 from 3-point range for 33 percent. The Chargers made six of eight free throws for 75 percent.

Bryant & Stratton was 30 of 66 from the floor for 46 percent, including six of 24 from long range for 25 percent. The Bobcats were a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.

Edison won the battle of the boards 33-30 and had just three turnovers to the Bobcats’ 19.
