Edison State hoop teams sweep Miami University-Middletown

PIQUA — The Edison State Community College basketball teams closed the 2021 portion of the season with a sweep of Miami University-Middletown.

MEN

Edison 69,

MUM 65

The Chargers improved to 10-3 on the season by rallying in the second half.

Edison trailed 33-31 at halftime, before outscoring MUM 38-32 in the second half.

Jaylen Robinson had 15 points and three assists for the Chargers.

Ibrahima Athie had 14 points, 17 rebounds, two blocked shots and four steals, while Jordan Howard scored 11 points and Sekou Maiga had eight points, seven rebounds and blocked two shots.

Mike Kennedy and Shaeden Olden both scored six points.

Edison State was 28 of 58 from the floor for 48 percent, including five of 16 from 3-point range for 31 percent. The Chargers made eight of 14 free throws for 57 percent.

Miami-Middletown was 23 of 59 from the floor for 39 percent, including eight of 22 from long range for 36 percent. MUM hit 11 of 22 free throws for 50 percent.

Edison won the battle of the boards 41-37 and had 23 turnovers to Miami-Middletown’s 19.

WOMEN

The Lady Chargers improved to 13-0 on the season with an easy win.

Edison State led 26-11, 46-17 and 81-32 at the quarter breaks.

Kailah Johnson had 27 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while Whitney Staggs had 27 points and five steals.

Allison Siefring had 14 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, Ajohlon Bullock had eight points and Maddy Bakosh had six points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Nia Johnson added six points, Haleigh Behnken grabbed seven rebounds and Kierra Wendel pulled down five rebounds.

Trisa Porter added three assists and two blocked shots.

Edison was 43 of 80 from the floor for 54 percent, including two of 11 from long range for 18 percent. The Chargers made 13 of 17 free throws for 77 percent, grabbed 65 rebounds, had 15 turnovers and came up with 13 steals.
