SPRINGFIELD — The Tippecanoe boys basketball team opened Springfield D-II sectional play with a 71-51 win over Eaton Friday night.

The Red Devils, 17-1, will play Graham at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tipp led 21-16, 35-23 and 57-36 at the quarter breaks.

Zach Frederick poured in 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Tipp/

Griffin Caldwell had 14 points and six steals, while Ben Knostman filled out the stat sheet with nine points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Cole Coppock scored 10 points and Gavin Garlitz added nine points.

Gabe Dean had four steals.

Bradford boys

lead for half

PIQUA — The Bradford boys basketball team put a scare into top seed Botkins for a half Friday night in Piqua D-IV sectional action before losing 63-45.

Bradford jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead after a basket by Connor Jones and 3-pointers by Hudson Hill and Parker Davidson.

The Railroaders led 17-8 at one point and were still in front 27-25 at halftime, sparked by 13 first-half points by Davidson.

But, Botkins scored the first 21 points of the third quarter, before Tucker Miller countered with two baskets as Botkins went in front 48-31 after three quarters and held on for the win.

Davidson led Bradford with 19 points.

Hill scored eight points and Miller added seven.

Bethel boys

drop game

VANDALIA — The Bethel boys basketball team lost to Stivers 60-37 Friday night in Vandalia D-III action.

Casey Keesee led Bethel with 19 points.

Will Reittinger added seven points.

SATURDAY

Troy boys

lose to Butler

CENTERVILLE — The Troy boys basketball team lost its D-I sectional tournament game to Vandalia-Butler Saturday by a 68-56 score.

Troy led 17-13 after one quarter.

Butler took a 29-23 halftime lead and increased it to 44-34 after three quarters.

The Trojans finished 9-12 on the season.

Piqua boys

fall to Wayne

CENTERVILLE — The Piqua boys basketball team dropped its D-I sectional tournament game with Wayne 85-46 Saturday.

Piqua trailed 26-9, 49-21 and 69-34 at the quarter breaks.

Dre’sean Roberts had nine points and five assists for the Indians.

Dylan Chaney had eight points and Devon Sever added six points.

The Indians finished 7-15 on the season.

Milton boys

lose to Bears

KETTERING — The Milton-Union boys basketball team lost is D-II sectional game to Northridge 64-29 Saturday.

The Bulldogs, 12-9, trailed 16-6, 31-20 and 48-25 at the quarter breaks.

Justin Randall scored nine points, while Blake Brumbaugh had eight points and five rebounds.

Andrew Lambert grabbed seven rebounds and Connor Yates pulled down five.

Lehman boys

edge Troy Christian

PIQUA — In an opening round game between the four and five seeds at the Piqua D-IV sectional, Lehman Catholic won a defensive battle with Troy Christian 36-32.

Lehman will play Russia at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lehman led 7-5, 17-10 and 24-18 at the quarter breaks.

The Cavaliers improved to 16-4 with the win.points.

Luke Frantz scored 12 points and Donovan O’Leary added 10.

Justin Chapman had eight rebounds and three blocked shots and Michael McFarland had six rebounds and four assists.

Landon McIver hit three of four free throws down the stretch.

Ben Major had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals for Troy Christian.

Alex Free added six points and three steals and Chas Schemmel grabbed five rebounds.

Newton boys

lose to Russia

PIQUA — On another Piqua D-IV sectional tournament game, Newton boys lost to Russia 67-56 Saturday.

Newton finished 11-12 on the season.

The Indians trailed 21-6, 36-20 and 54-30 at the quarter breaks.

Chandler Peters scored 21 points and Quentin Smith added 12 points.
