TIPP CITY — Spring is just around the corner, and Tipp Monroe Community Services is offering gardening classes to help you plan the perfect garden. There is no charge for each of the classes, but registration is required. Visit tmcomservices.org to save your spot. The following classes are available:

Planning Your Garden

Have you wanted to start a garden, but didn’t know where to begin? Master Gardener Meagan House will help you with your plan. Class discussion will include choosing a good location, plant selection and preparation. All experience levels are welcome. The class will take place via Zoom on Feb. 3 from 7-8 p.m.

Water Garden: Design and Construction

Learn the design basics for constructing a water garden in your yard. Concepts include size and location, material and equipment choices, stone choices and placement, maintaining water quality, plant material, and bog gardens plus periodic maintenance. Discussion will include a photographic case study of a water garden designed and constructed in Troy in 2008 and how it has changed throughout the seasons and years. The class will be taught by Maury Wyckoff, Miami County Master Gardener Volunteer, at the Monroe Township Building on Feb. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the basement of the Monroe Township Building.

Gardening On Another Level

If you have limited space to grow vegetables in your landscape, or if you are tired of weeds and discouraged with a messy garden, raised bed gardening might be the right fit for you. Deb Keppel, Miami County Master Gardener Volunteer, will share her experiences with Square Foot Gardening and offer tips on building your own raised beds and organically growing a variety of vegetables and herbs. The class will held March 10 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the basement of the Monroe Township Building.

Blades of Glory

From fertilization to mower height and more, learn how to make your green space the envy of the block. Join Amanda Bennett of OSU Extension Service for an informative session that will cover soil basics, the building blocks of healthy turf, fertilization, and disease and insect management. The class will be held at the Monroe Township Building on March 29 from 6-7 p.m. in the basement.
