SIDNEY — The Troy girls basketball team traveled to Sidney Wednesday night with first place on the line.

The game was close for three quarters, before Sidney scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take a 43-34 led and the Jackets went on to a 50-41 victory.

Sidney improved to 14-5 overall and 13-2 in the MVL with the win.

Troy and Vandalia-Butler share the lead in the Miami Division after Butler defeated West Carrollton Wednesday.

Troy is 12-7 overall and 12-3 in the MVL and will host Tippecanoe Saturday.

Butler is 15-3 overall and 12-3 in the MVL.

Troy’s Macie Taylor had tied the game in the final minute of the third quarter with a basket, before Sidney took control.

Sidney freshman Jordan Scully opened the fourth quarter with a basket, before Allie Stockton scored her 1,000th point to put Sidney up 38-34.

Scully, who would lead all scorers with 20 points, then hit a two-pointer and followed it with a 3-pointer to make it 43-34 and Troy never recovered.

The game had begun with Troy getting off to a fast start.

Taylor had assists on the Trojans first five baskets as Troy took a 10-4 lead.

Morgan Kaiser had the first four points, Kiyah Baker scored the next basket and Brynn Siler scored the final two baskets in the run.

Madalynn Hughes closed the first quarter with a 3-pointer as Troy took a 17-12 lead.

With Scully and Stockton combining for 12 points in the second quarter, Sidney took a 26-25 lead at halftime.

The Jackets opened a 30-25 lead early in the third quarter, when Troy went the first four minutes without a point.

But, the Trojans rallied to pull even going to the fourth quarter — before Sidney too control.

Taylor and Amyannah Tucker scored 10 points each for Troy.

Siler netted seven points and Hughes added six points.

Stockton added 15 points to the Jackets cause and freshman Larkyn Vordemark scored eight points.

Fairborn 22

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe girls basketball team improved to 8-7 overall and 7-5 in the MVL.

Tipp led 20-7, 34-15 and 49-15 at the quarter breaks.

The Red Devils will travel to Troy Saturday.

Stebbins 56,

Piqua 22

DAYTON — The Piqua girls basketball team dropped to 2-16 overall and 2-12 in the MVL with a road loss.

Piqua will travel to Greenville Saturday.

Piqua trailed 14-10, 32-13 and 49-16 at the quarter breaks.

Kenzi Anderson had 11 points and five rebounds and Reagan Toopes added five points and three steals.

BOYS

Covington 37,

Northridge 34

DAYTON — The Covington boys basketball team improved to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the TRC with a road win.

Covington will host Milton-Union Friday night.

The Buccs led 9-6, 17-13 and 26-24 at the quarter breaks.

Owen Boehringer and Carter Maxson scored eight points each to lead the Buccs.
