Icy conditions leads to crashes

PIQUA — Falling temperatures, snow flurries, and icy road conditions resulted in multiple crashes on I-75 on Sunday morning.

A total of six crashes were reported on both northbound and southbound I-75 in a 45 minutes span with the first crash report coming in to the Piqua Ohio State Highway Patrol Post at 7:55 a.m.

Only two victims were transported for injuries. Their injures are thought to be minor. Several dogs that were occupants of vehicles were uninjured.

Piqua Police handled one of the crashes, this near the 82 mile marker in the northbound lanes.The other five crashes were investigated by troopers from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

One of the crashes involved a Fletcher Fire engine which was parked on I-75 southbound at the 93 mile marker when a motorist failed to stop or move over on the icy highway.

I-75 north was closed for about an hour due to the crashes while the southbound side was reduced to a single lane.
