TROY — A local, longtime dealership is seeing a new name after the previous owner, Joe Johnson, decided to relinquish the reigns.

Joe Johnson Chevrolet is now Chevrolet of Troy, as of March 10, after selling the business to Jacob Shepherd, Dealer Principal of Chevrolet of Troy.

Shepherd has been in the automotive business for 10-plus years, working particularly with Chevrolet.

“It’s just something I’ve always had a passion about, serving a small-town community, representing the Chevrolet brand,” Shepherd said. “I’m delighted and excited to be a part of this opportunity.”

The dealership has been in Troy since Johnson purchased the Chevrolet store from Bob Ross in 1990, and Shepherd plans to continue its tradition of customer service, as well as a commitment to its employees.

“We’ve got a commitment to employee longevity, as well as retention (and) customer service,” Shepherd said. “Our number one focus is customer service.” Employee longevity and customer service go hand-in-hand with Chevrolet of Troy as Shepherd explained that customers can expect to see the same faces each time they come back. Shepherd said the majority of the staff has been with the dealership for over 10 years.

“That allows for continuity in the marketplace when the customers come in,” Shepherd said. “And any customer in the market for a car, service, body shop, parts — we welcome them to meet with any of the staff members.” He added that Shepherd is also available to help customers, as well. Chevrolet of Troy offers both new and pre-owned vehicles, as well as vehicle maintenance and parts.

Shepherd is not only committed to the local market, but also to the brand of Chevrolet.

“Chevrolet’s a very long-term, high-quality manufacturer that represents the country well,” Shepherd said.

Chevrolet of Troy is located at 1375 S. Market St. in Troy and can be contacted at (937) 703-4631. They are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sunday.
