American Legion offering meal

PIQUA — American Legion in Piqua is having a pork chop dinner this Saturday, Jan. 22, from 5-7 p.m. The meal includes pork chop, scalloped potatoes, green beans and a roll for $8. Opened to the public. Dine in or carry out. They will start taking orders at 4:45 p.m.

Piqua Civil Service to meet on Friday

PIQUA – The City of Piqua Civil Service Commission will meet on Friday, Jan. 21, , at 4:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room located on the second floor of Municipal Government Complex, 201 W. Water St. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Promotional Testing for Police Lieutenant and the subsequent need for a Police Officer Eligibility List.

TMCS offering ACT test prep

TIPP CITY — Increase your ACT score by attending a seminar hosted by Tipp Monroe Community Services. The instructor will be Dave Dobos, MIT alumnus. The cost for the class is $79 for residents and $89 for non-residents. The class will be held on two consecutive Sundays, Feb. 6 and 13, from 1-4 p.m. at the Tippecanoe Middle School, Tipp City. This intensive, six-hour, in-person seminar, will teach students how to maximize their test scores by covering test format and structure, what content appears on the test, ACT-specific testing strategies, and time management strategies. Dobos has taught ACT classes for TMCS for over six years. Tuition includes the book Ace the ACT by Kelly Roell and subsequent online access to sample questions, answers, assessment, and content-area flash cards.

Children invited to BNC’s Homeschool Nature Club

TROY — Did you know that studies have found kids who spend more time in nature are generally healthier, happier, and test better in school than those who don’t? Register your five- to 11 year-old homeschooled student for a morning or afternoon of discovery on the third Wednesday of the month at the Brukner Nature Center.

Staff naturalists have developed hands-on fun and educational lesson plans, using live wildlife and outdoor exploration. The Brukner Nature Center has spots available for its afternoon session, which runs from 2-4 p.m.

Cost for BNC Members is $5/child each month and nonmembers is $8/child each month. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline is Monday, Feb. 14, by noon. Pre-registration Guidelines: Call Monday through Friday at 937-698-6493 or email [email protected].
