Local group becomes recognized affiliate with national movement

For the Miami Valley Today

MIAMI COUNTY — We The People Miami County has a new name—Move to Amend Miami County, Ohio. The local group is now a recognized affiliate with Move to Amend, the national, nonpartisan, nonprofit coalition promoting an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that makes two things clear—constitutional rights are for natural persons only (not state-charted entities such as corporations, associations, unions and nonprofits) and money spent on political campaigns is not protected speech and requires regulation.

Local affiliates work to educate folks about the power and influence large corporate entities have over daily life and public policy. They also encourage elected officials and candidates for office, at all levels of government, to support the proposed We the People Amendment. Reintroduced last year as House Joint Resolution 48, the proposed amendment currently has 90 cosponsors.

Move to Amend Miami County meets the first Wednesday of each month, 6-7:30 p.m., to plan educational events and lobbying activities. To learn more, get involved or request a guest speaker, contact the group at [email protected]. For more information about the national movement, visit movetoamend.org.
