Mario Roush named ‘Sailor of the Year’

TROY — U.S. Navy, MA2 (EXW/SW) Mario Roush, the son of Therese and Don Roush of Troy, recently received the award “Sailor of the Year” on Jan. 12, 2022. Along with this recognition, he received the Navy Achievement Medal. Roush is a 2012 graduate of Miami East High School in Casstown.

Since joining the Navy, Roush has had the opportunity to serve on the USS Monterey CG 61, at Naval Undersea Warfare Detachment, AUTEC, Andros Island in the Bahamas, and as a Maritime Expeditionary Security Group 1, Detachment, Guam in Santa Rita, Guam, where he served on the following ships: USNS Howard O. Lorenzen, USNS Loyal, USNS Bowditch and the Mark V. He currently is serving at Naval Support Activity Crane, located in Crane, Indiana.

The Sailor of the Year program was established in 1972 by the Chief of Naval Operations to recognize an individual Sailor who best represented the ever-growing group of dedicated Sailors at each command and ultimately the Navy, with emphasis on outstanding achievements, exemplary personal conduct, military bearing and demonstrated initiative and performance.
