WEST MILTON — Kasey Metz has been selected to serve on the West Milton Village Council, filling a seat left vacant after the departure of a longtime council member.

Metz was given the oath of office by West Milton Mayor Anthony Miller during a special council meeting held on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Council member Sarah Copp was out of town and excused from the meeting; council members who were present voted unanimously to approve Metz’s nomination, after interviewing approximately eight other applicants at two separate work sessions.

“This was not an easy choice,” Miller said. “Thank you everybody for stepping forward. It was great having a conversation with everybody.”

A West Milton native, Metz attended the University of Cincinnati, and currently works as a registered dietitian at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

“Being a life-long resident of West Milton, I just wanted to see what I can contribute to the town and give back,” she said of her motivation to run for village council.

Metz will fill a council seat left vacant after Jason Land’s resignation in January. Village council members usually serve four-year terms, but Metz will face re-election later this year when Land’s term would have originally ended.

“This seat would actually be up for election at the end of this year anyway,” Vice-Mayor Scott Hurst said.

Council members did not conduct any other business during Tuesday night’s meeting. Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23.
