Jan. 23

ACCIDENT: An accident with no injuries was reported at 9:46 a.m. on the 6000 block of Fenner Road in Newton Township.

ASSAULT: Deputies conducted a welfare check on James H. Whiddon, 31, on Spiker Road in Piqua. According to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Whiddon tried to break free of the deputies. He reportedly resisted arrest and assaulted three deputies. One deputy was treated for a shoulder injury and another was treated for a lower back injury.

Whiddon was taken to the Upper Valley Medical Center, where he was deemed a danger to himself and/or others. At the hospital, Whiddon reportedly assaulted a doctor by biting the doctor.

Whiddon is currently facing charges of first-degree felonious assault and fourth-degree felony assault in connection with these incidents. Additional charges may come in connection with this incident following consultation with the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.

Whiddon is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on a bond of $50,000.

WARRANT: A deputy responded to the Kettering Police Department to take custody of a female they picked up who was wanted on an outstanding Miami County warrant. Upon arrival, the deputy took custody of Jessica N. Lucas, 32, of Troy. She was then transported to the Miami County jail, where her custody was handed over to Miami County corrections officers.

Jan. 24

SEX OFFENSE: A deputy was dispatched to a sex offense complaint. This case is pending further investigation.

ACCIDENT: An accident with no injuries was reported at 7:44 a.m. in the area of State Route 201 and Widener Road in Elizabeth Township.

ACCIDENT: An accident with no injuries was reported at 10 a.m. on the 3100 block of Kessler Road in Union Township.

ASSIST FIRE DEPARTMENT: While on the scene of a traffic crash at 11:42 a.m., a vehicle pulled into the ditch and became fully engulfed in flames in the area of Monroe Concord Road and Peters Road in Troy. After an investigation, the driver of the vehicle was cited for driving under suspension.

TRAFFIC STOP: A deputy observed a vehicle driving without a license plate light at 8:37 p.m. in the area of Experiment Farm Road and Farrington Road. The deputy got behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation, marijuana was located inside the vehicle. The driver was given a warning for possession of marijuana and not having a license plate light.

Jan. 25

LITTERING: A deputy was dispatched at 10:32 a.m. to the area of Boone Road and Ginghamsburg Frederick Road in Monroe Township for a littering complaint. After investigation, two juveniles were identified and charged.

THEFT: A deputy responded to a theft complaint at the Miami County Incarceration Facility at 10:48 a.m. It was determined a male inmate had accessed another male inmate’s phone time and PIN number. It was determined four calls were placed, totaling $13.60 off the victim’s account. One male inmate was ultimately charged with theft.

MENACING: A deputy was dispatched at 11:32 a.m. to the 5700 block of Greenville Falls Clayton Road in Covington to a third party menacing complaint in reference to a male making a verbal threat about another person that the complainant personally knew.

ACCIDENT: An accident with injuries was reported in the area of State Route 571 and State Route 201 in Bethel Township at 4:41 p.m.

ACCIDENT: An accident with no injuries was reported in the area of Peters Road and Swailes Road in Concord Township at 6:43 p.m.

CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT: A deputy responded to Casstown in reference to a child abuse complaint. This case and charges in reference to this incident are pending at this time.
