TROY — The top seeded Troy Christian baseball team got a solid pitching effort from Connor Frye and Zane Harris Monday against Southeastern in D-IV district semifinal matchup at Troy’s Market Street diamond.

But, five errors and a lack of timely hitting were costly to the Eagles in a 3-0 loss.

Frye and Harris combined on a six-hitter, with five strikeouts and four walks.

Southeastern broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with two runs.

After a single by Zach McKey and a bunt single by Austin Miller, runners were on second and third with two out when Cole Walton blooped a single into short centerfield to score both runners.

Southeastern made it 3-0 in the fifth inning.

Sam Smith helped himself with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when the throw home on McKey’s fielder’s choice sailed to the backstop.

Troy Christian had left runners on first and third with two out in the third.

In the sixth, walks to Ben Major and Matthew Major and a singled by Cam Koukol had loaded the bases with one out.

But, Smith got a pop up and strikeout to get out of the jam.

Koukol threw Smith out trying to steal in the top of the seventh to keep it 3-0 and the Eagles had one last chance.

After Adam Twiss walked, he was forced at second on Paul McDonald’s fielder’s choice.

Ben Major had a two-out single to bring the tying run to the plate, but Smith got a pop-out to finish off a five-hitter and end the game.

Smith struck out four and walked four.

Koukol was 2-for-3 for Troy Christian.
