PIQUA — The Piqua Public Library, located at 116 W. High St., has two seasonal programs starting up as spring begins.

The first program is the Seed Library. The Seed Library officially opened for the season on March 1, and contains over 150 various seeds – including herbs, vegetables, flowers and native Ohio plants – for patrons to borrow.

Patrons can receive up to 10 packets of seeds per month to plant and harvest. While it is not required, it is appreciated for borrowers to donate back to the Seed Library at the end of the season when their plants begin producing seeds.

To register and request seeds, borrowers can stop in to the Piqua Public Library and register at the circulation desk on the first floor, or visit www.piqualibrary.org/seedlibrary to fill out the online registration form.

The second seasonal program is the Solar Eclipse Glasses for kids.

The Piqua Public Library has glasses for children ages 0-17 for viewing the April 8, 2024, Solar Eclipse.

Juveniles must have an active, up-to-date Piqua Public Library card and be present to receive the glasses. If the child/teen does not have a Piqua Public Library card, they can sign up and receive their eclipse glasses the same day (a parent or guardian must be present for the child or teen to sign up for a library card).

Kids and teens will only receive one pair of eclipse viewing glasses each and glasses will be available at the Information and Reference Desk on the second floor until the eclipse or until they run out.

The library also has two other programs coming up that are not seasonal.

The first is Perfect Paws on March 19. For the Perfect Paws event the Piqua Public Library brings in a therapy dog to meet kids ages 6-17.

Patrons must register for this event on the library’s website. To register, visit https://www.piqualibrary.org/calendar/month and click on the Perfect Paws event on March 19. Then click on the registration link and follow the instructions to sign up for a 10-minute visit with a therapy dog.

Lastly, on March 23, the Piqua Public Library is hosting “Calling all Swifties!”

The library encourages all Swifties – kids, teens and families – to join them for a viewing party.

Free tickets to the event in the Fort Piqua Plaza Banquet Center are available at both the circulation and information and reference desks at the Piqua Public Library. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 3 p.m. The evening includes crown and bracelet making, a photobooth and dancing.
