NEW KNOXVILLE — NKTelco, a leading fiber provider in West Central Ohio, announced that it is expanding its multi-gigabit fiber-to-the-premise network in Piqua.

NKTelco has been in business since 1905 and currently offers data, voice, and video services to residential and business customers in communities located in Auglaize, Mercer, and Shelby counties. NKTelco will fully fund the project to provide residents and businesses with symmetrical, gigabit speed Internet service.

“We are excited to expand our new multi-gigabit fiber network in Piqua,” said Preston Meyer, general manager of NKTelco. “Gigabit speeds are becoming highly important as more people work remotely or need access to education and other online applications. NKTelco’s fiber network will provide residents and businesses with a new, competitive choice for internet and entertainment. We are building an all-fiber network to help foster additional growth and economic development for the area. NKTelco is working with the city as they develop a downtown innovation district. Given that we are an Ohio-based company, we plan to bring our Ohio hospitality and customer service to go along with our future-proof network.”

“We look forward to NKTelco expanding its high-speed fiber services in our community. The availability of Gig-plus data speeds will nicely support the needs of our businesses and residents,” said Paul Oberdorfer, city manager of Piqua.

This network expansion is part of an ongoing construction plan in partnership with NKTelco’s new parent, Schurz Communications. Schurz is a family-owned corporation formed in 1872 that has been helping businesses, communities, and individuals make meaningful connections for five generations. The Schurz legacy began in newspaper publishing, and today, the company remains committed to making information more accessible through the platforms and technology of the digital age. Schurz’s recent investments include regional broadband companies, global data center solutions providers, and digital media and marketing firms. NKTelco is the sixth broadband business to join the Schurz portfolio.

Fiber Internet service is more reliable because it has a higher data capacity and bandwidth, is less susceptible to outside interference and has a much lower latency than a traditional connection. NKTelco service will deliver multi-gig internet speeds along with all-digital TV and phone service for residential customers. Business customers will have access to data connections scalable up to 100 Gigs, cloud-hosted voice solutions, as well as TV channel packages tailored for all business types.

NKTelco plans to hire local sales, customer service, and service technicians to support its continued expansion. For those interested in joining the NKTelco team visit https://www.nktelco.com/careers/.
