FLETCHER — Robert D. Byerly, age 90, of Fletcher, OH passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 5:22 a.m. in the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, OH. Born on August 25, 1930 in Fletcher, OH, he was a son of the late Floyd R. and Alice Ann (Flaharty) Byerly.

Bob married Pauline Beth Wiseman on June 24, 1950 and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2018. Together they raised three children: Beth Fair of Celina, OH, Garry Byerly of Fletcher, OH, and Gayle Beard of Piqua, OH. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Lauryn, Abby, Richie, Tyler, and Nicholas; and eight great grandchildren. Additional survivors include sisters: Karen Malott of Piqua, Virginia Eisenzimmer of Celina, and Marcella Ann Bercot of Piqua.

In addition to his parents and wife, a brother, Floyd R. Byerly, Jr., a sister, June Dobbins and a son-in-law, Larry Fair, preceded him in death

Bob was a 1947 graduate of Brown Twp. School. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Piqua VFW. Bob was active in his community. He was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church, and a 50-year member of the Fletcher Lion’s Club. He formerly served on the Fletcher Fire Dept. and EMS, the Fletcher Village Council and as Mayor of Fletcher. He was instrumental in the building of the Fletcher Covered Bridge for the sesquicentennial celebration. Bob was also a member of the Mt. Olivet Lodge in Christiansburg, OH and the Scottish Rite of Dayton, OH. He retired as a test engineer from Hartzell Fan in Piqua.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren’s sports. Camping and traveling were a big part of his life. He enjoyed trips to Arizona where he could be found on a four-wheeler looking for gold. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and woodcarving.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow with Reverend David Chivington presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday two hours prior to the services from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
